    Fall is Upon Us!

And we are all too excited! Like an old friend, we greet it with anticipation every year! The crisp autumn air feels more than welcome upon our skin as we brace ourselves in the morning upon walking outside. Morning is staying darker longer, and the evening seems like it can’t quite keep it’s eyes open, leaving us drowsy and ready for bed earlier. But until bedtime, curling up on the sofa and settling in for a good show - or, of course, a glass of wine – sounds so sublime.

All our decorations come out as we prepare for this time of year. We buy seasonal floral arrangements, warm cozy blankets, sweaters and more. Then of course we start to see plaid, tweed and herringbone – all dredged up from the depths of storage, a pleasing sight for the eyes.

How on earth is it that; while all year long we enjoy these, things like coffee, tea, apples-even leaves-become such a significant staple to our current season? Are they not present all year long, and yet we take notice of them at a greater level now. They are a noteworthy relevance, of which is almost inherent to this time of year.

Whatever your seasonal staple is this fall, make sure to take a moment and really enjoy it. And from all of us here at Sedlak's, Happy Fall!

    Lobby Remake!

We enjoy keeping the lobby fresh and inspiring here at Sedlak’s, that’s why every couple weeks we give it a new makeover. This time the look is “cozy chic rustic” – a phrase we’re having patented as we speak.

The live edge dining table, in its high sheen “storm” finish, is from Harden Furniture. The iron base grounds the heavy table top, and polishes off the rough look for a sleeker design overall. Kick your legs up and unwind in this deep fabric/leather combo sofa from Massoud. It’s the perfect level of divinity for relaxing, watching a movie or having a glass of wine while hanging out with friends.

And of course, what rustic setting would be complete without an absurd abundance of animal heads, paintings and accessories? These guys all help round out the look with their refined take on classic looks. See if you can spot them all in the overall view of the room.

    Jonathan Charles

    Fine Furniture

A very special thank you to Jonathan Sowter, founder of Jonathan Charles, for coming to Sedlak Interiors and sharing his story with us yesterday.

Jonathan spoke about how he started out in the industry, and the incredible path his life has taken. Looking at his collections these days, you would never guess what design propelled him into the mega sphere of furniture design he is at now. A simple, clean lined, extremely contemporary sofa, far from the detailed carving and marquetry that he is known for today.

Jonathan’s design sense is one you don’t find too often any more in furniture design. He believes, in a world of Ikeas and Pottery Barns, that the skill set of furniture makers is something to be harnessed and cultivated. The beauty and craftsmanship in his furniture is unlike that of any other.

A few of the skills he not only applies in his designs, but is also proficient at are eglomise and marquetry. Eglomise is the process of painting or applying gold leaf to the back side of a piece of glass, a quite exquisite effect. Marquetry is a painstakingly skilled process where one carves veneer in duo tones to create decorative patterns, also breath taking.

Thank you again to Jonathan for sharing his story here at Sedlak’s!

    "As Seen on TV!"

Have you ever been watching TV and unexpectedly seen something in the background of the show that you yourself have in your own home? When it happens to us we suddenly perk up and become quite pleased with ourselves that we are so on top of today’s trends.

Well this exact thing happened the other day when watching a Netflix Original Series – “Grace & Frankie”, with Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda.  Ken Lerner came onscreen as Martin Sheen’s former boss, and lo and behold Sedlak’s very own Ibis bird lamp was in the background. This is one of our favorite pieces at Sedlak’s (which is why it’s in our Design Treasures gallery!).

The Ibis bird is represented in gold leaf in this playful lighting accessory. This bird can be found in the deep south, often right in your front yard nibbling at large insects for dinner. With legs for days, this table lamp tops out at 35”.
